Find out exactly where your hip pain comes from
How does a hip specialist diagnose hip pain?
A hip specialist diagnoses hip pain with a hands-on exam that includes gait analysis, range of motion and tests such as FADIR and FABER, plus standing pelvis X-rays. An MRI or MR arthrogram shows labral tears and tendon problems, and an image-guided numbing injection confirms whether pain comes from the hip joint or elsewhere.
Hip pain is easy to misread, because the lower back, the pelvis and the tendons around the hip all send pain to the same places. Dr. Stride checks the hip, the spine and the knee at every first visit, reviews X-rays taken while you stand, and orders advanced imaging only when it will change the plan. Most patients leave with a clear diagnosis and a next step.
